Nathan Simpson, HR Generalist
Where did you work before Capital Business Systems?
Prior to joining the Capital Business Systems team, I worked as an HR Generalist and Recruiter for an industrial construction company. It was truly a great learning experience being able to work with employees in a professional office setting as well as having boots on the ground out in the field!
Briefly describe what do each day at work.
The great thing about HR is that there is no “typical” day. Depending on the business’ needs, I am spending most of my day assisting employees with any questions they may have, recruiting and interviewing prospective new hires, and/or making sure all compliance needs are met, among many other things.
What’s the best thing about being in HR?
In my opinion, the best thing about working in HR is the fact that I have the opportunity to change lives. Hiring someone who’s in danger of losing a home, providing health insurance to someone who’s never had it before, or arranging job training that will give employees transferable skills no matter where they work is truly rewarding!
How do you define success?
I define success as always doing your best. Success can be achieved when you try your best in all aspects of everything you do.
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
Originally from the Houston area, there wasn’t much to do outside of work, in terms of recreation. Since moving to Colorado, I make sure to take advantage of the rivers, lakes, mountains and slopes as much as I can!
Fill in the blank: I once met….
Early in my working career, I was an International Flight Attendant for a private airline. We were once contracted out to fly Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx to the set of a movie – Pretty cool!
Favorite 3 movies:
• The (classic) Lion King
• The Conjuring 2
• Titanic
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
No questions asked – Pizza!
What advice would you give others in your profession?
My advice to anyone in HR is to be passionate about making sure the company and its employees are always compliant and keep up to date information on state and federal laws.
